Seongju Kim Coper
This week, we learned about problem-solving strategies and I chose COPER as my problem-solving strategy for this week. These days, I have a problem with workloads I get every week. There are so many writing classes this semester so I have to write everyday for homework and essays. In COPER strategy, first and only thing I put in the Current Condition is having too much workload. For options, I thought of doing works earlier, spend weekends wisely, and not to waste my time. Then, I thoroughly wrote down all the due dates for every homework and essays so I can schedule and finish them early. I tried to finish easy and simple works early so I could concentrate more on the big homework and essays night before the due date.
I started adapting this strategy on Wednesday and through Friday night. I used them mostly on ENL 211, CLS 105, and IST 195 which have most works to do every week. I finished problem-solving homework early because I take most time on writing homework and essays. IST class uses Blackboard often to give out homework and labs and to collect on them on Blackboard. There is only one writing homework every Monday in IST class. So I leave out the writing assignments and finish homework and labs first. Then I start writing assignment with ENL and CLS because these classes have most writing assignments.
This stratetgy helped me to work ahead but I have to keep myself diligent. I feel exhausted sometimes because I don't have enough break after each big workloads. There are always another tests or projects after tests or projects. I'll be really busy this semester catching up the classes and many writing assignments. I chose this method because I always worried about my workloads and this strategy is for the problem-solving.

I never thought about using the Coper technique because it just seems too unorganized and complex for me. Since I am a big fan of visual learner, it was easier for me to organize 'To do List' first then see step by step which was my most conern was. You should definately use the ranking priorities stradegy. I really think it will help you with reducing spending your time on doing so much things at a time.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! I was thinking about using this same strategy this week but I used ranking priorities instead. But after reading your blog I feel like i want to maybe try this strategy out too. It looks like it really lets you write down whats on your mind on a paper and when you actually see whats in your mind you can really dive into it. I believe its a great strategy.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you listed out your options, but I know that saying you are going to spend your weekends more wisely and actually doing so are very different. I know if I were to use this method, I would have to describe to myself exactly how I would define spend a weekend "wisely" and things I would have to do to to keep myself from squandering my time. I hope everything works out for you!
ReplyDeleteI like your strategy although I used a different one. I think it is good to understand what your problem is and give solutions for them. you must be busy since you have 18 credits. I am glad that this helped you.
