Since we have learned our language or other material, the most basic skill to learn something is ‘Memorizing’. At the same time, Memorizing is the hardest part in studying progress. Many people are having trouble about memorizing. When I was studying SAT for getting into Universities, the hardest part that students had was memorizing vocabulary. Every day, all the students should memorize 200 vocabularies. Most of students could not pass the test. However, some of the students, who had some special skill for memorizing vocabulary, are pass the test. One day, I asked them how to memorize the all the vocabulary. The smarty kids told about the Link. After I have known about Link, I could easily memorize all the vocabulary. I used Link about 4 years to memorize vocabulary I found the positive and negative side of the Link.
How to use Link system?
First of all, you should collect the words and concepts.
Second, you should create an image or word that can be pictured that looks like or sound like that abstract word or concept.
Finally, you should visualize an absurd picture intersecting the image.
English is the second language to me. So, it is really hard to memorize the American vocabulary. Using Link system could be more confusing to us to memorize. So, I imply the link system to my life. I changed a little bit for better memorizing. I imply the NEW link system to my ENL 202 class vocabulary quiz for tomorrow.

For the second step, there are two way to create image. One way is the make the image directly to the meaning. The other way is create image randomly and make story line about the word. It is depend on having or not having connection between word and definition. For example, Abase lower; degrade : A+base (The word ‘base’ has similar meaning with lower) has a connection between word and meaning. So, you could make image according to the definition. If this is not work, you could make the connection between word and definition. For example, the word aboveboard can be one. Aboveboard be in a straightforward manner : Above+board = straightforward manner above board could make a connection and sentence for better memorizing. The other way is orginal link system, which is create an image or word that can be pictured that looks like or sound like that abstract word or concept. For example, Abbess

Finally, as I am a kinetic learner, I should make a flash card for better studying. I usually used to use second step 3 years ago. In my opinion, after second step, you could make note card or review the vocabulary every 2 hours instead of final step. For me, making a note card and review every 2 hours really helpful to me. After I made 25 cards, I reviewed the card every two hours. I just looked through the cards. I perfectly memorized every single word in the list.
In my opinion, the best way memorizing the vocabulary and the term is the making flash card and review the all thing. However, some of the words could not memorize for a long time. That is the time to using link system. In my experience, abusing link system could be very harmful for your long term memory. There is no doubt to using Link system to memorize. However, according to my experience abusing link system is very bad. So, I hope you guys use flash card and repeating more than link System.
I can see that this system is very useful to you and that it takes a lot of effort to make something unique for each word. Its also good that you know what method helps you learn more effectively though. Maybe you could try using the flashcards in conjunction with LINK by drawing a picture on one side of the card with the word on the other.
ReplyDeleteI am very impresed with your highlighted sentences so I can read the main parts of your blog. However, you should link words to pictures and show it visually. instead of just writing the definitions, drawing pictures and linking the words to the pictures will help you memorize terms even more. nice blog!
ReplyDeletewow I was pretty impressed with the whole layout of all the definition. Looks like you had a lot of connections to make. What gina said, linking to pictures would be great too.
ReplyDeleteNice blog with details and emphasiss. You did great job linking each word. I read those words and could tell they are linked but it could have been better if the linking words are related to what you need to know (meanings). Good job blogging!
ReplyDeletei changed link for better understanding and learning!! just let you guys know!!!
