Since I was in high school I was very active with psychology stuffs. I was in a organizations where I help the kids with autism. And I loved couseling my friends with there problems with anything. i loved sociallizing and therefore I knew what major I wanted to do when I go to college, Psychology. So now I am in Arts & science school in Psychology major. After taking one course in PSY I found out something different about myself. I found out that I am not really into psychology that much. I just really like talking to others and giving advices but I do not really like psychology that deep. Also, in my first semester, I took many classes that also fit the requirements for my psychology major and found out that I am more interested in Art History and Economics. So then I decided that those are the ones that I should look more forward into. However in order for me to change my majors I have to get good grades and be very motivated with those majors so I can find what I really like to do.

Then first I wrote down some of my problems and academic fears. I guess my most fearful academic moments are when I dissapoint my parents. My parents believe that since I am in school, the most important role that I should be in is to do my job well as a good student and get satisfying grades. Getting low GPA will disappoint my parents a lot and in order for me to not do that, I wrote down what would be the circumstances and the actions I have to follow to ahieve that goal. And also I am very used to getting rewarded for what I do. Since I was in elementary school, My parents always rewareded me for getting good grades. And I figured out that the best rewards that I will get is to be successful in the future.

So overall, thinking about the reward that I will be achieving after overcoming the academic fears, make me feel like I should really start motivate myself to overcome those fears and change my majors into what I really like to do. Since I am a visual learner, writing things down like this helped me a lot to realize what my fears were and the circumstances that come after it. And the actions I must accomplish to get rewarded for it.

  2. I agree with you that our parents really motivate us alot. But soon or later i feel like we're going to have to come up with our own ways to motivate ourselves cause later in the future all of the things we do will be in our hands.

  3. I did exactly the same thing you did. I tried the chart to find out my reasons for motivations, academic fears, and exploring rewards. Also I have similar exploring rewards as you do. It was interesting to read your blog. Good job!
