Unwoo

As this weekend topic is related to the Exam experiment and some special note taking in class, I should choose on specific class for exam experiment. Same as last time, continuously, I choose an ECN class, which is going to have a Exam on March 7th following week. I really hate to take a note, while I am listening lecture in class. It is really disturbing me to concentrate to the class. I cannot do listening and note-taking at the same time. It is just like that. I know this is very awful and unproductive habit. Fortunately, few days ago, I found a solution for taking note. In my College Learning Strategies class, called CLS, teach me how to overcome this situation. Recording was the solution.

On March 3rd, that was the ECN review session for the test, I really do not want to miss anything for my better grade. I really want to take a note for memorizing and remembering all the information. However, I knew that Listening and note-taking at the same time is not work for me. Suddenly, I had remembered what I heard in CLS class, which is ‘RECORDING’. I brought my I-touch right away and started to record my professor’s lecture.

After I recorded ECN lecture, I took a note from I-touch easily. There are few ways to take a note, such as Plug-in note, To do note, 3+1 note, and SU/Cornell note. At this time, I used a SU/Cornell note for my better organizing and productive note. According to SU/Cornell note, first step is that dividing three sections for note, term, and summary. Second step is that filling the lecture information on the note section. Final step is that filling the term and summary section by yourself. In my opinion, SU/Cornell note is very creative and productive for reviewing what we learned today, it is also very good to imply for 20min test prep. Especially, final step is just for the 20mins review after class. I think this note taking strategy is very good for recalling our memory what we learned.

This note is SU/ Cornell note. which is done for first and second step.

This note is SU and Cornell note. which is done for final step.

Implement of the SU/Cornell Note

Also, I imply SU/Cornell note for memorizing and studying about concept and term instead of using note card. I make a little change for my comfort. First of all, I divided A4 printing page by 2 sections. One is for the term. The other is for the description, note, and graph. Second and last, filling the all the information in the two section. Then, this way will help you study a lot.

Fold half of the page for memorizing the description.

  1. Nice blog! I have also tried using the SU/Cornell notes just like you. I loved how you recorded the lecture of your professor and wrote notes according to it. I should also try recording the notes as well because when I am taking the notes, I feel like i am only busy writing notes and not actually learning anything from the teacher. I should try your technique! I enjoyed reading your blog!

  2. Good idea that you record your lecture in the lecture so that you can review your lecture anytime after class. Also I like the way you used your SU/Cornell notes to memorize terms well by folding the terms. There are also a couple of colleges that record the lectures and post them online for other students to watch them anywhere and anytime. I hope Syracuse does that as well. Enjoyed reading your blog. Good job.

  3. The SU/Cornell note taking system is also really great for taking notes from textbooks. I have a bad habit of recording too much information and this method of notetaking really helps me focus on what information is relevant

  4. At first when I saw the "recording" part I thought..what? I didnt know we were allowed to use this. however as I read your blog i noticed you incorporated the other strategies we were suppose to use. In fact it looks like you used the same strategy as i did. It was really helpful for me and i typed up all of my notes just so that it is neat and clean for me. NIce blog.
