Seongju Memory

Memorization is one of the most important things to not only students but also to many other people. It is important but not easy so people write down things on their notes to not forget. For students like us, we use our memory more often when we prepare for the tests and memorize terms that we learned in lectures. When I study for the exams and memorize terms, I only remember most things in short-term memory as I read over and over the terms and meanings several times, forcing to put those in my head for the tests. I usually memorize and study those when the test date is close because I know I'm going to forget them soon after I memorize. However, with one of the strategy, Link System, it will make memorization easier and lasts longer for the quizzes, tests, and the final exam. I used this strategy, link system, to ENL 211 and ECN 301 to try the effectiveness of the memorization strategy that we learned this week because these two classes have many difficult terms to memorize.

Since there are a lot of reading assignments in ENL 211, I need to learn and memorize many vocabularies to understand the readings and write. Here are my list of vocabularies and the use of link system to learn the vocabularies that I did not understand while reading.

For ECN 301, there are lots of terms and vocabularies that I do not understand and to memorize. I also adapted the link system to ECN 301 class to make memorizing easier.

These strategies made me make up linking words that sounds or looks similar that makes me think of each other. It helped me to memorize much easier and remember for longer period of time because these links make it easier to learn the words or terms and meanings together. As an international student, there are more vocabularies and terms to memorize more than domestic students. I believe it will be very helpful for me to memorize and study for the exams more effectively.

  1. Nice, I actually read through the words you linked them with and they were even easy for me to memorize. You seemed to directly relate the word to another word that sounds like it. I personally related to things that out in the world, and physically touching things.

  2. your LINK looks very neat! I am sure what you have done for ENL and ECN helped you a lot. As a student whose first language is not English, I have been having to put much effort learning new words. It will help me too as I am using the same strategy.

  3. You did a great job coming up with link words but you should try to find words that are more "tangible," for example, how would you visualize words like expense and circling? It might help you to draw a picture like I did to get you really thinking about what words re tangible and which ones aren't.
