Last week's topic was TART with the definitions belows:
Terms- get from the bold print or listing in the chapter
Attend- Listen for the terms, explanation, and examples.
Read- Clarify lecture
Test- Create questions and review
By using TART strategy it allows you to first take a preview of what is going to come up in lecture. I used this strategy for BIOLOGY this week. Most professors like mine have a syllabus telling us what we will be going over during each lecture. So, that means, I can look up terms or phrases that I would expect to see or hear during lecture. By getting a quick review like that, it allows me to listen carefully to what my teacher is saying and try to listen for the terms I have already reviewed.
For me, I looked on the back of each chapters that were suppose to go through and I made a quick list of just the terms to look for during lecture. Even though I had no clue of what these terms meant I knew they were going to be talked about in class so i wrote them all down.
My next task was to go to class and listen for the terms i have listed. I noticed that, because I had these terms to look out for, it made me concentrate in lecture. I did not want to lose focus and miss out on the terms. I managed to get all the definitions of the terms during lecture meaning they were all important. I did not really have to do much looking up after class. I planned on going into the textbooks to get definitions and examples but I managed to do all of that in class.
Then lastly, when I got back to my room, I used a 20 minute test prep in order to create couple questions and review them and also looking over my terms again.

This strategy seemed to help me because I am a kinesthetic learner and I have DO something in order to understand. By writing down all the terms and then later filling them out with definitions by myself helped me remember things a lot better in my long term memories.
Enjoyed reading your blog about TART. It seems great to be used for classes that give out tests from reading textbooks. It was different from mine but your blog about TART was interesting. Good job!
ReplyDeletebk, I also used TART for this week's strategy. It looks like many people used TART including you and me. I think you made a great decision that you chose bio to try this strategy. As you know, bio has many many terms you have to memorize and TART was the right one to choose.
ReplyDeleteI have also used TART for my ECN class. It had worked for me but I have also tried the NSAS technique and seemed to me that stradegy worked better. TART was a good technique for classes that are mostly terms and deginitions based. However I thought economics were more like logic based then just simply memorizing terms so for me NSAS worked better. Nice blog!
