What is my Motivation?!

This week's topic was on motivation and I felt like it was a perfect time to hear this word "motivation" because we are all close to being done with school and a lot of people are burnt out. Even for me, I have one more set of exams and finals to go through I'm done! However after taking some hard set of exams, I caught a really bad cold and suffered all through last week. I feel burnt out and dont have as much motivation I had in the beginning of the semester.
So! what I did was listed Academic fears I had for this semester in most of my classes. Then on each category I wrote down the worst outcome, best outcome, and action needed (that can help me cope with the fear). After doing this, I was able to clearly say the fear I had and list out bunch of solutions. Just like earlier this semester I remember hearing that if we just think about a big picture we cannot possibly just DO it. We have to break it down to see what is going on and then put it on a drive.

Another thing that helped me motivate myself was this "Exploring Rewards" chart. This is suppose to help you motivate yourself by giving yourself a realistic reward or something that will come to you if you were to fulfill whatever you are doing. In the No-cost reward I said that getting a high GPA would be my reward because if I am able to work hard all through the semester my reward will be possibly all A's. Then in the low-cost rewards I wanted to list something that was related to money. Usually if I am able to do well in school, my parents sometimes reward me in money. That is one of my big motivations to do well in school. Who doesnt need money? EVERYONE does. Then lastly my high-cost reward was related to my future. If I dont work hard now, my future will not be stable. I'm going to have to find a job that will get me through life and that will all count during my school years. I need to work hard now in order for me to set a good future. Whether I go into a profession or just a simple job if I'm not successful in school I wouldnt be successful at all in the future.

For me, listing out these simple rewards gave me that spark of motivation again to go back to work and wake up from the slump. I should be able to finish this semester strong with these rewards next to me.

  1. I found the academic fears list to be helpful as well. It helped me realize that some of my fears about applying for a tutor and whatnot were actually unfounded because they were basically founded in fear of the unknown. charting the information also helped me to realize how much the benefits outweighed the costs.
For your rewards list you might want to think about giving yourself rewards such as going out with your friends or indulging in a candy bar instead of just listing positive possible outcomes of what good behavior can result in.
    Overall, nice blog!
